NAS-Corpus Christi Recognized as Storm Ready Community

Naval Air Station-Corpus Christi received recognition on Friday for being the nation's 2,000th storm ready community.

The Storm Ready program helps community leaders and residents better prepare for hazardous weather and flooding. The National Weather Service presented a certificate recognizing NAS Corpus Christi as the third base in Texas.

"We're here to honor the Naval Air Station as being the 2,000th storm ready community in the National Weather Service," said Michael Coyne, Deputy Director of Performance and Resources at the National Weather Service. "That means that they have done a lot of work, groundwork, to prepare for storms, and they have a plan in place to take action whenever threatening storms approach the region."

Some 10,000 people on the base will now be storm ready in the event of threatening weather.
