National Bull Riding Competition Comes to Kingsville

Some of the nation's top bull riders are coming to Kingsville for a two-day event, which begins Friday night at the J.K. Northway Coliseum.

Kiii News was on hand Friday afternoon as preparations were underway. The National Professional Bull Riders is one of the premier bull riding tours in the country, and has been coming to Kingsville for over a decade.

Cowboys will compete for thousands of dollars in money and prizes.

"My job is to bring the comic relief to the crowd if there's a slow time, or if a bull lies down in a shoot or something," Rodeo Clown Ronald Burton said. "We don't want there to be any dead time. We've got to keep the people entertained, and it's my job to bring a little of that into the arena."

"I'm play by play and color, all rolled up in one," Rodeo Announcer Dave McMahon said. "I let everybody know whose about to nod their head, and tell a little bit about the cowboy and the bull, and interact with Ronald and try to put on the best show as we can and keep everybody pumped up."

The action begins at 8 p.m. Friday and continues Saturday night.
