Snow report...Mueller testimony...Iraq attacks
WHITE HOUSE (AP) - White House spokesman Tony Snow's cancer has
spread to his liver. That news comes a day after Snow had surgery
to remove a small growth, which doctors now say was cancerous.
President Bush says Snow remains "upbeat."
CAPITOL HILL (AP) - F-B-I Director Robert Mueller (MUHL'-ur) is
on Capitol Hill to discuss his agency's actions under the Patriot
Act. An inspector general's report found the bureau used the law to
improperly or illegally collect personal information. Mueller today
asked lawmakers not to change the law. He says the law didn't cause
errors -- the F-B-I did.
BAGHDAD (AP) - Two truck bombs struck two markets in Iraq today,
killing at least 30 people and wounding dozens. More than ten other
people died in another market attack elsewhere in Iraq. Four other
people were killed by mortar fire.
EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) - An Illinois jury has cleared the maker
of the painkiller Vioxx in the deadly heart attack of an obese
woman. Jurors found that Merck adequately warned doctors and
consumers about possible complications from using the drug. Merck
pulled Vioxx off the market in 2004 after its research showed it
increased the risk of heart attacks and strokes.
SUPREME COURT (AP) - The Supreme Court is making it harder for
whistle-blowers to share in the proceeds from certain fraud
lawsuits. The court ruled today that a retired engineer can't
receive money for exposing fraud at the now-closed Rocky Flats
nuclear weapons plant in Colorado.
