New Boat Show Comes to the Coastal Bend

Some local business owners have come together to put on something called the Texas Coastal Boating and Saltwater Expo.

For a number of years, the International Boat Show brought around 40,000 people down to the Bayfront for the event, but organizers canceled it last year. Since then, the City has been trying to come up with an alternative, and they announced it on Friday.

"We believe there's going to be 15,000 plus," Marina Director Peter Davidson said. "It's going to be highly advertised. A lot of the young people from the Eagle Ford Shale area are buying boats and going fishing."

The Saltwater Expo will be held out on the Lawrence Street T-Head July 11-14. The latest and greatest fishing boats will be on display, as well as plenty of events for people to enjoy, like some planned seafood classes and fishing demonstrations.

Some 100 vendors are expected to show up to give the crowds plenty to do.

Costa Productions and the City are joining forces to put this huge event on. The City is charging the group an $8,000 for the use of Lawrence Street T-Head.

With 25,000 people expected, things are going to getting crowded. So free parking and a $1 shuttle from the old Memorial Coliseum area are being offered for those who love fishing.
