New Jersey Allows Same Sex Marriage

(CNN) -- The New Jersey Supreme Court has denied the state's motion to temporarily prevent same-sex marriages, clearing the way for same-sex couples to marry in the state starting Monday. A lower court had ruled September 27 that same-sex couples must be permitted to marry in New Jersey, arguing that the parallel label "civil unions," which the state already allows gay couples, is illegally preventing them from getting federal benefits.
