Manuel De La Rosa - Reporter
Manuel “Manny” De La Rosa was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. He graduated with a degree in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Southern California in 1991. He's very proud of LA roots and you can catch him cheering on his favorite sports from the city of Angels on his off time from work. While he now lives in Texas, he gets harassed by many of friends and colleagues about being from LA, but remains loyal to his hometown. Manuel is the Area 3 Reporter for KIII-TV. He covers most of our stories outside of Corpus Christi and enjoys visiting the small communities. He enjoys meeting the leaders and residents and getting to know about their areas. Manuel said it's an honor to serve them and report on the issues that are important to these areas that mostly go unnoticed, except for KIII-TV. While other stations only go there for big stories, Manuel is the only reporter assigned to those cities in the area and he enjoys visting those cities and counties. During most of his career, Manuel has always emphasized the importance of treating people fairly and being humble about his job. By doing that, he has gained the trust of his contacts and residents in those areas. During his career, Manuel has worked in a number of markets in the Southwest, but he always been treated the best in South Texas. He started working in 1993 at KAVU-TV in Victoria. From there, he has worked as a reporter in Waco, Tucson, Central California and the Rio Grande Valley. He also worked for nearly three years in the LA Bureau as an associate producer of Trial Coverage for Court-TV. He calls it the best time of his life as he learned about legal and crime reporting. Many police officers, attorneys and judges enjoy doing stories with him because of his vast knowledge of the legal system. He's one who always enjoys watching Court TV when he's at home or covering a good trial while out in the field. Manuel has always been a leader in broadcast journalism. He has been a member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists since 1990. He's currently the organization's Vice President of Broadcast. Prior to that, he served as a regional director for the group for three years on two different occasions. He's also an ex-oficio board member of the Radio and Television News Director Association. Manuel is quoted and interviewed on issues impacting the broadcast industry. He believes in speaking out on issues involving journalists and making sure they're treated fairly in the field. Equally, he also believes diversity in the newsroom is an important issue so viewers can see the best quality newscast on the air. Manuel met his wife Alma while working as a reporter in Victoria at a business mixer. The two dated and eventually got married. They have been married for more than 12 years. They have two children, Denisse, 17, and Manuel II, 12. His wife and kids are the love of his life and he'll do whatever he can to bring them happiness. Click here to send message. |
