Chris Thomasson - KIII Sports

Chris is the newest addition to the KIIITV3 weekend team, taking over the sports desk every Saturday and Sunday night. When Chris isn’t out and about covering local sports, you can find him either on the beach or at a movie. Chris has always said if he didn’t follow his first love of being a sportscaster, he’d for sure be a movie critic.

Chris is thrilled to be back in his home state of Texas after working as the weekend sports anchor at the ABC affiliate in Lawton, Oklahoma for two years. Covering the Sooners was certainly an experience for Chris, especially since he was fresh off graduating from the University of Texas at the time. Seeing the Red River rivalry from another vantage point was an eye-opening experience, and gave Chris a newfound respect for our neighbors north of the Red River.

Prior to moving to Oklahoma, Chris lived in the Lone Star State all of his life. Originally from Katy, Chris grew up with a passion for high school football, as he watched his beloved Katy Tigers rise to prominence in the late 90’s. Chris was lucky enough to see one 5A state title during his time at Katy High School and then another three after graduating (three to date anyway… the Tigers are shaping up for a potential three-peat in 2009).

Chris had wanted to be a Longhorn since he was about 5 years old, and finally realized that dream. Chris joined up with the Texas student television station (formerly KVR) on his first day of college, the only student-run station with a FCC license in the country. Chris put in countless volunteer hours throughout his four years there, eventually working his way up to Sports Director. Chris’ proudest moment was getting to do the play-by-play when the Longhorns baseball team beat future New York Yankee Jaba Chamberlain and the Nebraska Cornhuskers in Austin.

Chris has always loved baseball first and foremost, and is thrilled to cover the high school baseball powerhouses in the area, as well as the Hooks. He has always been a diehard Astros fan.

If you have any story ideas for Chris or just want to chat about the UT-A&M rivalry or Red River Rivalry, shoot him an email at Sports@kiiitv.com.
