Nueces County Officials Confirm Fourth Flu-Related Death

A fourth flu-related death in Nueces County was confirmed by City-County Public Health District officials on Thursday.

The patient was a morbidly obese male between the ages of 30-40 years old. He was pronounced dead on arrival at a local hospital earlier this week.

Additional information regarding the man's identity is being withheld to protect the patient's privacy.

Local health authority Dr. William Burgin advises everyone to protect themselves against the flu by getting the flu shot, and by distancing themselves from sick people whenever possible.

The City-County Health District offers four tips to keep in mind to protect yourself and others from the flu:

- If you are sick, stay home to keep from getting others sick.
- Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you sneeze or cough.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water, or use an alcohol-based hand rub.
