Parking Woes Addressed at this Year's Texas Jazz Festival

Parking at this year's Texas Jazz Festival is going to be less hectic this year.

The Jazz Festival is partnering with Regional Transportation Authority to provide free parking and trolley services. Two lots will be reserved for Jazz Fest guests, one near Shoreline and Park, and the other near the Nueces County Courthouse.

A trolley will run through the lots every 10 minutes to pick up riders. The areas will also be security patrolled. Officials said they are hoping the trolleys will eliminate last year's problems.

"Last year, it was a nightmare with traffic backed up, and parking," said Rick Sanchez, president of the Jazz Festival Society. "There were some people charging $20 to park, so we wanted to cure that situation; and hopefully, I think, we've taken care of that this year."

This year is the 52nd annual Texas Jazz Festival. It runs from Oct. 19-21. It will showcase 55 bands, 75 food and craft vendors and several types of music, including Big Band, Smooth Jazz and Latin Jazz.
