Pat Suter Charged with Hit & Run, Bail Set at $50K

87-year old Coastal Bend environmentalist Pat Suter remains in Nueces County Jail this morning facing a charge of hit and run.

The activist surrendered to Corpus Christi police Wednesday accompanied by her attorney.

Investigators say earlier this month Suter struck 60-year old lawyer Richard Leshin while he was riding his bicycle on Ocean Drive and never stopped.

The 87-year old's attorney says she admits to hitting something, but did not know it was a person.

"She did think it was a trash can. she never would have left if she thought she would harm someone," said Mark Di Carlo, Suter's attorney. "She's been a member of the community her entire life, has an exemplary record."

"I don't know if she needs to go to prison," Richard Leshin, hit and run victim said. "I'd like to know is, what actually happened that morning, why was she in the bike lane? Why she didn't stop. My scream, you could hear throughout the neighborhood."

Leshin wants an apology in person.

Suter faces up to 10-years in prison if found guilty.

She is being held in jail in lieu of $50,000 bond.
