PAYS Program Line Up Law Enforcement Jobs for Soldiers

The US Army is joining forces with the Nueces County Sheriff's Department.

The idea is to encourage young people to enlist in the Army with the promise of a career with the Sheriff's Department when they get out.

"It's a great thing, you know, the partnership between the military and law enforcement," said Christopher Szymanski, a US Army military recruiter. "These are two lifestyles that go hand-in-hand. It's a win-win for both of us."

It's called the PAYS Program, or Partnership for Youth Success. The way it works is that upon completion of their Army commitment, soldiers will be channeled into a job with the Sheriff's Office using a skill learned in the Army.

The PAYS Program has been around for a number of years, but they said this is the first time it has been brought to Corpus Christi.
