Pearl Harbor Remembrance Ceremony at Sherrill Park

People across the country and right here at home paused Friday morning to remember the 71st anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor.

A remembrance ceremony was held Friday morning at Sherrill Park.

It was 71 years ago that the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor in Hawaii, leaving behind some 2,400 dead and pushing the United States into World War II.

Among those who attended Friday's ceremony were two Pearl Harbor survivors.

"I was over there, stationed on this ship before the war started. It was sunk during the attack," Pearl Harbor Survivor A.J. Dunn said. "Let's remember Pearl Harbor as we did the Alamo."

Members of the Veterans Band were also on hand for Friday's remembrance ceremony.
