Since word got out of the burglary and vandalism that took place at CASA of the Coastal Bend, there has been an outpouring of support from the community, including a $5,000 check from Pepsi Cola/Sunrise Vending.
The company offered their $5,000 donation to CASA to help replace some of training equipment that was stolen from them early Monday morning. The thieves made off with computers, a projector, the security system and toys that were to be given to the children that CASA serves.
As soon as news of the burglary got out, several people stepped up to help. Johnny Mendoza, who likes to collect toys won from claw machines and donate them to various causes, donated a bag of stuffed animals to CASA; Freddy Ramirez, with Pendgo Timing, a local chip company, is offering $1,000 to help start a reward fund through Crime Stoppers in hopes of catching the thieves; and Heather Tijerina, a former CASA volunteer and staff member, started a website to raise funds to help rebuild, repair and replace all of the stolen items.
