Piano Placed Downtown to Stimulate Art Awareness

If you're going to be waiting around the American Bank Center Saturday, chances are you might hear some music.

A donated piano will call the breezeway between the Convention Center and the Selena Auditorium home. It's called Keys for Corpus Christi, and it's the brainchild of the Mayor and Hammons Education Leadership Programs, or HELP, which provide guidance to at-risk youngsters.

Ridge Hammons said the idea behind the piano is a great way to stimulate art awareness in Corpus Christi.

HELP wants to set up pianos throughout the city, where people congregate as a way to inspire folks to embrace the arts. As far as anyone walking away with one of them, Hammons said the pianos weigh 500 pounds. So it will take a lot of work for anyone to just make off with it.
