Police Arrest Suspect in Shooting Homicide on Martin Luther King Drive

Corpus Christi police arrested a suspect in the Feb. 12 shooting homicide of 43-year old Walter Duhart Tuesday afternoon in the 1200 block of Winnebago.

Thanks to the public, who provided information to the detectives in the Corpus Christi Police Department's Robbery and Homicide Division, a warrant for the arrest of 38-year old John Luera was obtained Tuesday. Shortly after, Luera was arrested in the parking lot of an apartment complex and transported to the City Detention Center.

Luera is accused of shooting Duhart on the evening of Feb. 12 in the 1400 block of Martin Luther King Drive. When officers responded to reports of shots fired and arrived at the scene, they found Duhart laying on the ground with gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital by ambulance, where he died from his injuries.

After interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence at the scene, police determined that the shooter had been walking and got into a four-door Chevy and fled the scene after the shooting.
