Police Arrest Suspect in Tobacco Store Robbery

It was a frightening moment for employees at a local tobacco store when a man walked in with a gun demanding cash on Tuesday.

Police said it was just after 9 a.m. when the suspect walked into Tobacco Junction demanding money. Store employees quickly called police.

Officers got to the scene and chased the suspect to the 4300 block of Naples, where he was eventually arrested at around 11 a.m.

"What they did was they kept the suspect from running," said Officer Kirk Stowers of the Corpus Christi Police Department. "They established an area to contain him, to keep him from running from the perimeter, and then they methodically, with patience, safely apprehended the suspect."

The suspect has been identified as 37-year old Richard Jaquez. He was arrested and taken to the Nueces County Jail, and now is facing robbery charges.
