Police Crack Down on Drivers Speeding to Work Thursday Morning

Early-morning speeders on SPID were in for a big surprise Thursday as the Corpus Christi Police Department set up several traffic enforcement areas to crack down on speeding.

Police said they had received numerous complaints from the public about morning commuters speeding to work, usually between 5-9 a.m.

"Out to the base and to the refineries, a lot of complaints have come in because people driving to work," CCPD Senior Officer Kirk Stowers said.

After a little more than three hours, police gave out 116 speeding tickets. Several other citations were also issued to violators. The fastest a driver who received a citation was going was 104 miles per hour, according to police.
