Police Investigating Drive-By Shooting That Injures One

Gunfire erupts in a Corpus Christi neighborhood sending a 21-year old man to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg. The drive-by shooting happened Wednesday evening on the 200 block of Adams near Ayers.

Police are searching for the suspect.

3 News reporter Bill Churchwell spoke with neighbors.

A few neighbors were shocked to hear about the shooting that happened right across the street from them. They're praying the victim will be okay.

The violence unfolded just after seven Wednesday evening. The victim was standing in the driveway of a home along with a friend and the friend's uncle when they say someone drove by and fired a single shot.

The 21-year old was shot in the upper leg and was taken to the hospital. Investigators interviewed witnesses and took photos of the garage door. Damage from the shrapnel was evident.

Delia Tovar, a neighbor, says,"Checked with the neighbors, this guy walk or drive by and they were getting ready to wash or wax the car in the backyard when the guy came over that's when we saw the police cars such a quite neighborhood for this to happen but it happens."

Lt. Tim Brown, Corpus Christi Police Department Gang Unit, says,"Any idea how many shots, appears just one multiple holes in the garage leads me to believe that it might be a shotgun."

Police say while they are not ruling it out, at this point there are no indicators that this was gang related.

The victim may have to go through surgery but is expected to survive. Police say there is only a vague description of the vehicle used, saying it's a red four door car with two Hispanic men. The driver wore a black shirt and the passenger had tattoos.
