Police Investigating Theft at Construction Site

Police are investigating a major theft at a local construction site that happened over the weekend. A couple of the items stolen actually showed up Monday at another construction yard.

The robbery happened at the construction site for the new Border Patrol building near the airport. Thieves got away with equipment and vehicles.

Police think the crime happened Friday night in the 9100 block of Highway 44. Officers found that the yard had a breached fence. They are still not sure how much equipment was taken, and are currently working on a list.

But on Monday, they found one truck and trailer with some equipment. A groundskeeper at Granny's Kountry School on Up River Road found the truck.

"It is in my way. That is mainly where I cut at," groundskeeper Earl Bluday said. "There's a couple big ruts. Looks like they might have been in a hurry too."

"The truck had a trailer attached with equipment in it," said Lt. Chris McClure of the Corpus Christi Police Department. "Police think they took it somewhere, transferred equipment, and left it behind."

Again, police are still compiling a list of all the equipment that was stolen from the construction facility. In the construction yard, plumbers, electricians and construction workers all kept their equipment there, which has made getting an accurate count of the missing items difficult.
