Portland Police Chief Promoted to Assistant City Manager

There's going to be a change of command at the Portland Police Department as 16-year police veteran Chief Randy Wright is set to be promoted to assistant city manager.

The news was announced Monday as the City said that it is looking for a new police chief.

Wright said the advancement decision was made a while back, but was delayed until a few projects within the police department were completed. He will take on his new duties starting October 1.

Wright will oversee the police and fire department, as well as library services and parks and recreation.

A search for his replacement is currently underway.
