Ramping Up Enforcement Efforts for Labor Day Weekend

Labor Day weekend is coming up in just a few days, and the Department of Public Safety is sending out word that they will be out in force during the holiday weekend.

"The Department of Public Safety will put into effect Operation Holiday," DPS Senior Cpl. Charlie Ramirez said. "That means we'll have all of our troopers working the highways and farm to markets and state highways in the Coastal Bend and throughout the area."

The biggest thing they will be looking out for is intoxicated drivers, and they will also up enforcement when it comes to speeding and not wearing your seat belt.

Also, District Attorney Mark Skurka announced Wednesday that Labor Day weekend will be a "no refusal" weekend. A phlebotomist will be on hand at the City Detention Center to perform blood draws on suspected drunk drivers.

Normally, when police need to do a blood draw, they have to go to a hospital, and that can take a few hours. With a phlebotomist on hand, that turnaround for police will be much quicker.
