Ray Girls Wrestling Takes Regionals, Readies For State

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii Sports) - The Ray girls' wrestling team was known only as a wrestling dup four years ago, now they're on their way to the state tournament in Austin.

The Texans place four girls in individual matches at state in the various weight classes, and also won the team regional by garnering the most total points from matches. The team regional title was the first for the girls in Ray's history.

Coach Tiffany Soza said there were only two girls on the wrestling roster when she took over the program four years ago. Now there are eight Texans that competed in the district tournament a few weeks ago.

The 4A girls' semifinal matches will all be next Thursday, February 21st with the championship matches set for the following Saturday in Austin.

1) Alex Sanchez - Sr. (110lbs)
2) Lucy Hamilton - Sr. (138 lbs.)
3) Raven Garcia - Jr. (185 lbs.)
4) Christine Chessher - So. (215 lbs.)
