INCARNATE WORD ACADEMY
College Board’s National Hispanic Recognition Program (NHRP)

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – Five students from Incarnate Word Academy high school have been recognized by the College Board’s National Hispanic Recognition Program.

Incarnate Word Academy Principal Gerald Lugaresi announced that Robert Barrera, Sarena Barrera, William Cutbirth, Jaclyn Ponish, and Alejandro Villamil.  The five students are recognized for exceptional academic achievements.
The College Board’s NHRP was initiated in 1983 to identify outstanding Hispanic high school students and to share information about these academically well-prepared students with subscribing colleges and universities.

The College Board’s National Hispanic Recognition Program has selected 3,300 students from a nationwide total of 124,000 high school juniors who took the PSAT/NMSQT and identified themselves as Hispanic.  In addition to their PSAT/NMSQT scores, the program also requires a minimum GPA of 3.0. Each year the NHRP identifies approximately 4,500 of the highest scoring high school juniors who took the PSAT/NMSQT.

The nationwide selection also includes students from Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Guam and U.S. citizens attending international and APO schools.

Incarnate Word Academy, established in Corpus Christi in 1871, is owned and operated by the Sisters of the Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament.  It provides education to students from throughout the greater Corpus Christi Community starting at 3 years of age to grade 12.  With a current enrollment of approximately 902 students, the campus includes three educational levels – elementary, middle and high school.
This past year, IWA graduated 100% of its senior class, with garnering scholarship offers totaling over $2 million dollars.
