Thousands to be “Guided” to Corpus Christi for Witnesses’ annual event

Corpus Christi—As estimated 13,200 from Corpus Christi, including those from Kingsville, Alice, Robstown, Aransas Pass, Rockport, Victoria, Laredo, Eagle Pass, will come to the American Bank Center Arena over 2 successive weekends for a three-day event focusing on finding reliable guidance. The event is free of charge.

Jehovah’s Witnesses will host their annual convention at the American Bank Center Arena with the first of the two local conventions starting with the Spanish language convention beginning Friday, August 15 2008, at 9:20 a.m., followed by the English language convention commencing the weekend of August 25 2008. The 2008 “Guided by God’s Spirit” District Convention is open to the public. Admission to the convention is free, and no collections will be taken. The program will focus on why reliable guidance is needed today and where people can turn to for trustworthy advice in all aspects of life.

Witnesses who are associated with the area’s 28 congregations anticipate an excellent turnout for the event in view of the enthusiastic response to last year’s convention, which had the theme “Follow the Christ!” Witnesses also look forward to welcoming many non-Witnesses to the convention. Witnesses believe that all who attend will benefit from the practical information presented.

Throughout the United States there will be 305 conventions in 76 cities. Worldwide, there are nearly 7,000,000 Witnesses in over 101,000 congregations. In 2007, more than 12 million people attended over 3,200 of the Witnesses’ conventions around the world.
