Man Arrested after Disrupting Church Service

KIIITV News

MANDAN, N.D. (AP) - Authorities say a man broke a statue in a church and ran toward the altar before he was tackled by people attending a Sunday service in Mandan, North Dakota.

Police Sgt. Bill Stepp says the 43-year-old man came into St. Michael's Traditional Roman Catholic Church behind a line of people going to the Sunday morning service.

Stepp said the man broke an eagle statue and then "ran toward the altar like he was going to rip it down or knock it over." Stepp said the parishioners tackled the man. No one was hurt.

Witnesses said the man was yelling about government involvement with the church. He was arrested on charges of terrorizing, disorderly conduct and criminal mischief.
