Rezoning to Make Way for Development at Old Butter-Krust Bakery

City Council is set to sign off on a deal to turn a shuttered bakery into a real tourist attraction.

The old Butter-Krust bakery, which was closed down after the company built a brand new facility in San Antonio, has sat vacant since the late 90s. Developers now want to turn it into the Six Points Market.

Local dentist Bryan Gulley and developer Mike Edwards plan on putting in retail shops, a restaurant and a huge courtyard there. On Tuesday, City Council is expected to approve a zoning change that will allow the development to move forward.

"I think it's great someone goes in and buys an old building in town and wants to fix it up, and I'm really excited about it," Councilman David Loeb said.

The City is glad to see the development along Ayers because it is one of those areas of town that the City has targeted for revitalization.
