Road Work Causes Traffic Slowdown at Everhart, SPID

Most drivers know the frustration of trying to make it through the usual traffic at Everhart and SPID, but lately traffic has been worse due to some lanes being been blocked off.

For the past week, traffic has been backing up in all directions because of some private construction work taking place. The company set out orange traffic cones in various spots in and around the intersection. The goal was to keep people out of the southbound, right-hand lane of Everhart.

The old Stripes store that was closed down there has been renovated and turned into a small strip center. Workers have been busy trying to get the project complete, and that work also includes repairs to the street and curbing.

To be able to get that done, they've had to block off through traffic, and that's caused a bad intersection to become a worse headache for drivers.

"There are some traffic issues, and that being traffic backup," said Charlie Cardenas of City Traffic Engineering. "We're grateful that it's happening now, and not during the new school season, and yes, it's been going on for about a week, and there are some utility conflicts and utility issues in which the contractor is running into."

The City is hoping that the construction will be finished before the start of school. In the meantime, it appears there will be no traffic relief there.

Our City traffic engineer did tell us that the company had to submit its traffic control plans to the City and the Texas Department of Transportation, and those were approved.
