Some major traffic issues are causing delays for many residents and visitors heading over to Padre Island. The delays are a part of road work on Park Road 22. TXDOT began resurfacing a major portion of Park Road 22 on Friday. The work continued through the weekend.
The affected areas include the main lanes and shoulders of Park Road 22 from just east of Waldron Road in Flour Bluff to Highway 361.
Its not only a headache and inconvenience for drivers, but also a concern for fire and the police departments in flour bluff. If they get a major call on the island, fire and police would also have to deal with the traffic.
The Flour Bluff Fire Department took a proactive approach and now they are staging some man power on the island to help the Corpus Christi Fire Department incase they receive major calls.
Fire Chief Dale Scott with the Fire Department in Flour Bluff said, "we came up with a plan of adding an additional engine company brush truck and 3 more fire fighters during peak times to improve staffing in the area incase something does happen."
According to TXDOT, this project should take about 4months, but they will be taking a break from March 7-16th for spring break.
So far the police department has dealt with 6 minor accidents on the JFK Causeway since that roadwork began Friday morning.
