Robstown Officials Sign Off on Deal for New Outlet Malls

It's official. The deal to bring a new outlet mall to Robstown has been signed, sealed and delivered. That means eager shoppers should plan on hitting the outlet mall within the next two years.

The Outlets at Corpus Christi Bay are set to open by the start of the 2014 summer shopping season. Officials from the City of Robstown sat down and signed an agreement with the developers Tuesday morning at the Richard Borchard Fairgrounds.

The agreement will give those developers up to $38 million in tax incentives. Without that help, all involved said the deal wouldn't have been done.

"We've been working on this for four or five years since it's been delayed, but now it's been resurrected," Robstown Mayor Rodrigo Ramon, Jr., said. "We moved forward with the negotiating team, and everything looks so great. The atmosphere is great."

The new outlet mall is going to be built in two phases, and right now, developers say there are already 34 tenants ready to go in to 74 retail spaces, and phase two also has generated a lot of interest as 40 shops are signed up. A movie theater and a hotel could be part of that second phase.

Construction is set to start as early as March.
