Robstown Police Investigating Severely Malnourished Horses

There has been an outpouring of help from citizens across the Coastal Bend after several extremely malnourished horses were found at a ranch in Robstown.

Crews from Robstown Animal Control stacked up close to 20 bales of hay at the private ranch property where the horses were found, off of FM 892 and Highway 77.

Two of the twenty horses on that property were already dead. Animal Control said that the two dead horses appeared to have been dead for at least two weeks.

While the case is now under investigation by Robstown police, the owner of the property has made contact with Animal Control.

"Well, I did get a chance to talk to him, and basically he told me that he did pay someone to feed the animals, but we can't find or locate the person," said Jason Garcia of Robstown Animal Control.

When the horses were discovered a few days ago, they did not have food, but water was nearby.

The other malnourished horses will stay on the property because they are too weak to travel. Some are barely able to stand. They will remain under the care of Animal Control, as well as other volunteer groups, until a decision on ownership is made in court.
