Rollins Solid in Debut as Hooks Beat Midland in Extras

CORPUS CHRISTI (CC Hooks) - Domingo Santana's one-out single to left-center scored Max Stassi for the decisive run as Corpus Christi trimmed Midland 2-1 Sunday in 10 innings before 4,867 at Whataburger Field.

The Hooks, who've won 15 of their last 21, stand 26-18 in Texas League South second-half play. They're tied with San Antonio for the division lead. Corpus Christi is 68-46 overall.

The RockHounds are 17-27 and 50-64.

Santana made a loser of Blake Hassebrock (0-2), who entered the game as the fourth Midland pitcher only to yield Stassi's towering ground-rule double to right and Santana's game-winner.

Patrick Urckfitz (6-3) tossed two scoreless innings to collect the victorious decision.

Corpus Christi placed a couple of runners in scoring position against Sean Murphy during the first three frames before a fast-developing yet fruitless two-out opportunity in the fourth. After Jonathan Meyer reached on a throwing error by shortstop Darwin Perez, Michael Burgess doubled to right. Enrique Hernandez' deep fly to the left-field warning track was caught by Tyler Ladendorf.

Hooks starter David Rollins, making his Double-A debut, cruised through four frames after Josh Whitaker's first-inning double. Another Whitaker two-out double scored Jefry Marte, who opened the sixth with a lead-off two-bagger and was pushed to third when Perez successfully sacrificed.

Rollins was then pulled for Jonas Dufek in the wake of three hits, a walk and six strikeouts. Fifty of his 79 pitches were strikes as the lefty faced one over the minimum from the second through fifth.

Dufek went on to post 2 1/3 scoreless innings.

Murphy made a strong bid for his ninth victory but was lifted in the eighth when Corpus Christi knotted the contest. On the run, center fielder Chad Oberacker dropped lead-off hitter Ronny Torreyes' fly ball, resulting in a three-base error. Torreyes crossed when Stassi bounced into a 6-4-3 double play.

Murphy allowed six hits, walked one and struck out four. His pitch count was 95 (68).

The Hooks are off Monday before opening a three-game series with Northwest Arkansas. Corpus Christi's David Martinez (13-2) faces Kyle Zimmer (2-0) Tuesday at 7:05.
