Schwirtlich Sisters Help HBU Take Series From Islanders

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii Sports) - This weekend was a homecoming for softball sisters and Houston Baptist Huskies Lauren and Kirsten Schwirtlich, and they indeed made themselves at home in helping HBU to a series win over the Islanders.

The former Tuloso-Midway Cherokees had a combined five hits and five runs scored in a 9-3 Huskies' win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the rubber game Sunday. The Islanders dropped to 6-17 and 1-2 in Southland Conference play while Houston Baptist improved to 7-6 and 2-1 in conference.

The Schwirtlich sisters were playing their first collegiate game back in Corpus Christi after both were reunited as teammates this season at HBU. Kirsten joined as a freshman out of T-M. Lauren also joined the Huskies this year after sitting out of softball in 2012 following her exit from Texas A&M's program for personal reasons. Plenty of T-M players, coaches and fans were in the stands at Chapman Field to watch the former Cherokee stars.
