Slick Roads Cause More than 12 Accidents, 3 Rollovers

Slick roads created challenges for drivers on Corpus Christi roads Tuesday night. The rain started coming down just after 2 p.m., contributing to a couple dozen accidents across the city.

It was a very busy afternoon for the police and EMS responders. Just within the past hour, they have had 12 accidents. Three of them have been rollovers.

Two of the rollovers were on I-37. Both drivers lost control as they were driving on an overpass. The third rollover was on Highway 44 and SPID. A truck was traveling east on FM 44 and attempting to get on SPID when he was turning and lost control, flipping over several times.

Police and fire crews arrived and pulled men out of the truck. The driver and the passenger sustained minor injuries and were checked out by EMS. They were then transported to Spohn Memorial Hospital.

"One common factor that we can all zero in on is the speed," said Senior Officer Kirk Stowers of the Corpus Christi Police Department. "Especially when the roads become slick. Allow for additional distance."

The bottom line is, slow down. Take your time getting to places, even if it may look like it hasn't rained much.
