Someone to Know: Ark Volunteer Elenora O'Bryant

Many Coastal Bend nonprofits rely on volunteers to operate. In this edition of Someone to Know, 3News introduces you to one of the first volunteers at the Ark Assessment Center in Calallen.

Every Wednesday for four hours, Elenora O'Bryant works with abused and neglected children at the Ark Assessment Center.

"I felt like I was led here, and I really love showing others love," O'Bryant said.

The 79-year old spends her time helping with everything from homework to listening, and even showing how to properly brush your teeth.

"It's a real blessing to help them," O'Bryant said. "To see what they can do when they have proper care all the time."

O'Bryant was one of the nonprofit's first volunteers. Board members say her skills make her successful with the children.

"Somebody that you can trust. You know, you can ask her anything," Ark Board President Sister Milagros Tormo said. "If she is able to do it, she's going to do it."

O'Bryant is quick to give the credit to the staff.

"The staff has it hard. They're very dedicated and very loving people; just what those children need," O'Bryant said.

Ultimately, the long-time volunteer says you can make a difference by donating food and clothing to the nonprofit.
