Storm Water Department Excavator Slides Into Ditch

Workers doing some maintenance on a local roadside ditch were stuck for hours Friday after the soft ground apparently just gave way.

It happened around 11:30 a.m. in the 2200 block of Airline, near Cimarron.

Construction workers were cleaning out debris from the ditch using a heavy piece of equipment called an excavator. At one point, the ditch caved in and the excavator began sliding into the ditch. It was stuck there for more than five hours.

"We have dug out in front of him, and we have put up some fresh concrete in front of him," said Scott Monse, Work Coordinator with the City's Storm Water Department. "Once we get the track up on the concrete, it should get it right out."

Workers said they now have to wait until the ground dries up before they can go back out and clean up the debris.
