Students Unveil Bust of Late DEA Agent Enrique "Kiki" Camarena

A true American hero was celebrated Tuesday morning at Martin Middle School. A bronze bust of late DEA Agent Enrique "Kiki" Camarena was unveiled.

The tribute came after students did research into Camarena's life and were inspired by his courage and dedication in the battle against illegal drugs.

Camarena was kidnapped in 1985 in Guadalajara, Mexico. His body was found a month later. He had been tortured before he was killed by members of a drug cartel. His death inspired the creation of Red Ribbon Week.

"We have always focused on our students, on our youth," said Geneva Camarena, Enrique's widow.

Geneva Camarena currently heads up the Enrique S. Camarena Educational Foundation, which also provides the bronze busts to schools and organizations around the country.
