Summer Program Provides Food for At-Risk Children

Thanks to the food bank and local energy company CPL, dozens of at-risk kids will have plenty to eat this summer.

"We are grateful" said Kalynn Boadnass with the Food First Summer Bag Program. "Some kids can't really eat sometimes."

The Food First program is a first of its kind, a summer program that provides children with nutritious, easy-to-open and easy-to-prepare food that can last all weekend.

The food is being handed out at targeted sites to children who need it most, including the children at the City's summer latchkey program at Solomon Coles School.

It is estimated that up to 20-percent of households with children in Texas are "food insecure," meaning they do not always know where their next meal will come from.
