Summer Reading Programs Begin At Local Libraries

With Summer here, how bout signing up your child into a summer reading club? It's already underway at the Dr. Clotilde P. Garcia Public Library on Brockhampton, and it's not too late to sign up your little one.

This year's theme is "Fizz...Boom...Read," a science theme. For every 10 books that a child reads, that is at least 500 pages, your child will get a certificate and a surprise bag.

"I do think that is a good idea, because it would encourage kids to read more cause they would be getting something," says summer reader, Cassie Herreia.

"You learn a lot of things and you learn the basics," said Leo Soto.

You can register your kids at any City Public Library. The goal, librarians say, is to foster a love of reading over the long summer break.
