Suspect in Calk Elementary Copper Wire Theft Arrested

He's been to prison six times, and if convicted of his latest charge -- stealing copper wire from Calk Elementary -- 40-year old John Wesley Wilson could be returning.

Wilson was the subject of a manhunt Tuesday as Nueces County Sheriff's deputies tried to arrest him. He escaped by jumping into the Nueces River.

On Wednesday, Wilson was picked up by police on the 8200 block of SPID. Investigators said he allegedly made off with thousands of dollars worth of copper wiring from Calk Elementary earlier in the week, knocking out power to part of the school.

Surveillance video shows the suspect walking off with bundles of the wiring stolen from the roof. This latest charge will be added to another case -- that of being a habitual felony offender.
