Suspect that Shot Edinburg Police Officers Had Prior Arrest in Alice

One of two Edinburg police officers who were shot in La Joya, Texas, Tuesday has been released from the hospital. The other remains hospitalized following surgery.

The shootout between the suspect and law officers began around 5 p.m. Tuesday when the officers tried to serve a capital murder warrant to 29-year old Joaquin Cibrian. Cibrian was later shot and killed in a shootout with police.

Cibrian was wanted for last week's murder of a Mexican national in Edinburg, and is no stranger to the law. He was arrested less than a year ago in the Alice area.

Kiii News Reporter Mike DaSilva spoke to one of the men who arrested Cibrian in Alice last September and learned more about Cibrian's background.
