Suspected Drunk Driver Crashes Into Parked Police Car

A Corpus Christi police officer is recovering at home after investigators say a drunk driver slammed into the back of his patrol car.

The incident occurred at around 2 a.m. Wednesday on I-37, near Nueces Bay Boulevard. The police officer was waiting for a vehicle to be towed when the driver of a red car slammed into him.

That driver was transported to Christus Spohn Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injures. The driver was not wearing a seat belt.

Investigators say, when released from the hospital, the driver of the red car faces charges of DWI and driving with a suspended license.
