Suspects in Falfurrias Gang-Related Shooting Accept Plea Deal

A plea deal was reached Thursday in the trial of two men charged with manslaughter in the 2013 shooting death of 26-year old Omar Rivas in Falfurrias.

The two suspects, Juan Cervantes and Eliazar Garcia, both plead guilty on charges of manslaughter as part of the plea agreement. Cervantes was sentenced to seven years in prison, and Garcia was sentenced to six years in prison.

Investigators said the shooting was gang related.

It was Sunday, March 17, when Rivas was shot and killed by the two suspects as the maroon truck they were driving pulled up beside him on the 800 block of South St. Mary's Street on Business 281 in Falfurrias. Cervantes turned himself in to police the next day, and Eliazar Garcia was arrested shortly after.
