TAMUCC Holds Vehicle Emissions Testing at Whataburger Field

There was a good turnout Wednesday for free auto check vehicle emissions testing held at Whataburger Field by Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.

Organizers said more than 100 drivers brought their cars and trucks to the testing station, which was set up by the Pollution Prevention Partnership. Each vehicle underwent a three-minute emissions test and was fitted with non-leaking gas caps.

Those vehicles that didn't meet emissions standards were eligible for a voucher for up to $500 in repairs.

Chris Cisneros-Guzman, the director of the program, said the vouchers and free gas caps were a surprise to many.

Wednesday's testing was held on Ozone Action Day, which is declared by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. Ozone Action Days are most favorable for unhealthy ground-level ozone pollution.
