TAMUCC Hosts Wreath Laying Ceremony for Veterans Day

With the help of the Carroll High School choir, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi took time for a wreath laying ceremony and a moment of silence to honor veterans Monday.

The wreath was laid in Garcia Plaza on the campus, with guest speakers including the veterans services director and the commander for the campus ROTC.

Michael Bowman, a veteran and student at TAMUCC, was injured by an IED in Iraq. He praised colleges like TAMUCC who are making an effort to help those who served.

"Upon returning, it was a great feeling when I first got here, on my very first day, after being accepted back into the university again," Bowman said.

Meanwhile, the school used the holiday to announce record enrollment of veterans on campus. The 1,009 veterans taking classes represents nearly 10-percent of the student population.
