Texas State Aquarium Staff, Volunteers Clean Up Packery Channel Park

Staff and volunteers from the Texas State Aquarium gathered for a beach clean-up at Packery Channel Park Friday morning, hoping to rid the popular beach of trash and debris.

The clean-up was organized by the Aquarium's teen volunteer group, known as AquaTeens, as part of a community outreach program.

During the cleanup, they found old tires, tire rods and even an ironing board among countless bags of trash. The group had cleaned North Beach a couple of times in the past, but this time, they wanted to concentrate on a more remote stretch of beach.

More than a dozen bags of trash and debris were picked up, along with five illegally dumped tires, two mattresses and a box spring.
