Three Hospitalized After Early Morning Accident in Bishop

A horrible Friday morning accident sent three people to the hospital, one of them a 13-year old. The accident happened around 7:45 a.m. at U.S. Highway 77 and Farm Road  70 in Bishop.

Department of Public Safety investigators said a Ford pickup truck heading northbound veered into the median for some reason, and crossed over into the southbound lane, slamming into a Suburban.

Both drivers were taken to Spohn Memorial Hospital, while the 13-year old was taken to Driscoll Children's Hospital by HALO Flight.

Fog conditions could have been a factor.

"In our Coastal Bend area we have fog, and drivers have to be extra alert," DPS Trooper Charlie Ramirez said. "Just be sure that you wear your seat belt."

Ramirez said that the reason there were no fatalities in the accident is because everyone was wearing a seat belt.

"That seat belt sometimes makes a lot of difference, if people would only wear them," Ramirez said. "in fact, the mom told me, she said, if it hadn't been for those belts, it could have been worse."

All three who were transported to the hospital are expected to be okay.
