Three Hospitalized After Helicopter Crashes Near Falfurrias Checkpoint

U.S. Customs and Border Protection confirmed that one of their helicopters crashed on La Copa Ranch near the Falfurrias checkpoint at around 8 a.m. Friday.

The U.S. Border Patrol said that three of their agents were conducting an overhead operation when the pilot had to make an emergency landing on the ranch property. All three agents were taken to McAllen to be treated for non-life threatening injuries sustained in the crash.

Kaas Hernandez, the ranch foreman at La Copa Ranch, was one of the first people to arrive at the crash site.

"I saw the chopper, and next thing I know, it's gone," Hernandez said. "I lost sight of him."

Hernandez helped put out the fire that was caused by the crash.

"You don't expect to see that everyday," Hernandez said. "One day you wake up and look outside, and see a helicopter go down."

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the accident to try and figure out what caused the chopper to go down.
