Three TAMUCC ROTC Students Commissioned in the U.S. Army

Three ROTC students from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi have been commissioned as second lieutenants in the U.S. Army.

Leah Gonzales, Rebecca Hill and David Melin have successfully completed the Islander Battalion ROTC program, and were commissioned on Thursday. All of them said it was a very special day.

Melin said his father administered the same oath to his brother, but his dad died a year ago. So on Thursday, his brother stepped in for their father.

"Having my brother here before he deploys makes it incredibly meaningful for me, and I'm honored to have him swear me in today," Melin said.

"It's the culmination of a long journey, but I'm excited," Hill said.

"It was rough being away during every summer for the past three years, but it was all worth it," Gonzales said. She said she will be a logistics officer, and will be stationed in Alabama.

Kiii News would like to congratulate all three, and thanks them for their service.
