One local doctor says he's been ripped off for thousands of dollars and his identity stolen and used by thieves to obtain credit in his name. And it all started with the break in of his post office box.
Doctor Raul Capitaine says, "I think its horrible, our identity can be stolen anytime and this is the proof." Dr Capitaine says he's living a nightmare he wishes on no one .as he shows us page upon page of copies of his stolen checks. The checks have been altered, his address removed and replaced with fake addresses.
"I have been broken into twice once before Christmas, another time was during the month i think April or May," says Dr. Capitaine.
His mail delivered to the U.S. post office on Weber near Saratoga.
Like all post offices it is open 24 hours a day. 7 days a week. The doctor says the p.o. boxes are like sitting ducks for thieves. Capitalne says, "This is happening not only to me i know of other people. Professionals and lawyers that this is happening and this needs to stop. I mean the post office need to close those doors put cameras and secure the identity of our citizens." "
Dinah Taylor says she rents a post office box for, "security reasons to make sure I get my mail properly." She rents at the very same post office where Dr. Capitaine once did.
So she was shocked to learn about his experience and the trouble it's caused him. "No I thought this was more secure," she add.
Asked if she say any cameras, Dinah answers, "no."
3 News spoke to a public information officer with the post office who told us Dr. Capitaine's case is under investigation and defended the post offices security system saying "there are surveillance cameras."
But when we checked three Corpus Christi post offices we didn't see any. The post offices response: "that's part of our security measure."
