Chief Medical Officer Richard Davis and CEO of Christus Spohn Bruce Holstien held a news conference at Spohn South on Tuesday afternoon to offer sympathy to the family whose premature baby died at the hospital.

Officials had admitted that wrong doses of heparin were administered to more than fourteen premature babies at Spohn South.  There is an investigation by hospital personnel to determine if heparin was a factor in the child's death.

Holstien explained that the wrong dosage was prepared in the hospital's lab where at the time, three pharmacy employees were working.  One was a pharmacist and the other three were pharmacy technicians.

Holstien said two of the employees asked to be put on personal leave. He said the hospital has began a full investigation into the heparin dosage errors.
